A wok on stove on Sunday

Sunday afternoon 2 pm. Kitchen. While standing in front of the stove, I felt a warmness radiating from the stove top. "Strange! I'm not cooking anything." Alas!! I forgot to turn off the stove Sunday morning after cooking Chinese style pancake. Although it was on the lowest setting, the flame had been on (with the empty wok on it) for over 5 hours. Alarmed, I turned off the stove and checked on the wok. It was neither melted or charred, although the residual oil was turned into some very sticky stuff. It could have been much worse...
